  • 1837 $10 Forest City Bank R5 spurious

Cleveland, OH- Forest City Bank Spurious $10 Nov. 5, 1857 S5
Although notes from the all of the Ohio State Stock Banks were quite similar in design, they were not identical. It made it easy to catch a spurious note like this, which was made from a plate originally intended for producing counterfeit Bank of Commerce $10s. The male portrait on each bank's issues was unique, and the counters varied in shape and size from bank to bank. This note grades Very Good, with a 5-1/2-inch tape reinforcement of a fold split on the back.
